RECOMMENDATIONS OF USE FOR THE CYLINDER DURING ITS LIFE CYCLE
If the following recommendations have not been complied with, the guarantee as ruled within SAH Leduc General Conditions of Sales could be rejected.
A) Cylinder storage at the customer
Except in instances of special packing and/or specific protection, hydraulic cylinders must be stored in weather protected amenities and should not be exposed to major temperature variations (ideal temperature range being between 5 and 40°C with a relative humidity below 70%).
Hydraulic cylinders stored for extended period of time should be operated 4 to 5 cycles every 6 months minimum at a temperature of > 5°C (4 or 5 cycles). This, to avoid premature deterioration due to rust on the piston rod, the bore of the cylinder or unpainted areas, as well as drying of seals.
Unpainted areas, like : bushes, should be checked and, if possible, protected against corrosion with grease or oil. After the maneuver, the piston rod should be stored in the closed position.
B) Installing cylinders into your machines
It is vital to perform a system bleeding during the cylinder assembly stage.
This should be done by using a bleed screw if the cylinder is equipped with or by operating several cycles at low speed.
The purpose of this bleeding device is to allow the air to escape in order to avoid premature wear and tear in seals and the appearance of leaks caused by "diesel effect".
Parts which require lubrication (axles, bushing, spherical bearings, etc.) should be duly oiled or greased when assembled at the customer's site.
During assembly into the machine of a cylinder with an extended piston rod, the cylinder piston rod needs to be protected in order to ensure against impacts on the chrome-plating layer.
Cylinders should be assembled avoiding clamping that could generate radial efforts.
The level of cleanliness for elements associated with the hydraulic circuit should be such that any contamination of the cylinder is avoided (SAH Leduc recommendation: particles should be < 0.5 mm).
The oil in the hydraulic circuit should comply with ISO 4406 class 20/18/15.
Any welding performed on the cylinder shalll result in the termination of the guarantee of SAH Leduc.
For cylinders fitted with electronic components (e.g. magnetostrictive linear sensors, etc.), earthing must be performed prior to any operation which may cause a power surge.
C) Using cylinders on your machine
Cylinder usage should comply with the original specifications.
The cylinder is designed with external end stroke stops by default.
Exceeding the pressure levels as listed within the original specifications may result in the deterioration of the cylinder as well as risk of grievous bodily injury.
In the case of pressure relief valve installed in the hydraulic circuit, it is strictly forbidden to change the calibration value of the valve.
Based on the conditions of use, the changing of seals as well as lubrication of fixings (axles, spherical bearings, bushing, etc.) should be performed regularly.
Prior to any work carried out on the cylinder it is vital to ensure that no hydraulic pressure is built up and to also take any necessary measures against risk of burns.
When the machine has not been used for an extended periods of time, the storage of the piston rod (in a closed position) is recommended.
In the event of extended storage, the cylinders should be operated (4 or 5 cycles) every 6 months at a temperature of > 5°C.
